World Championships 2003
Chiasso, Switzerland

Photos by Michael Grasser. The games were played in the Maplensa Athletic Facility (which converts to run hockey, soccer, volleyball and basketball events).

Here Grasser's team takes a few practice rolls with the Italian team before the start of their contest.

Emiliano Benedetti rolls. According to Grasser, Benedetti is "the best Italian player and probably the best player in the world."

Dismantling of court #1 to make room for more bleachers for the finals. These are multi-use athletic fields for basketball, hockey, volleyball, soccer, etc.

Plexiglass safety barriers at the ends of the courts.

Corner view showing swingboard and ball rack. (Looks like they might be selling ads on the side boards).

Fabulous view of Lake Lugano from Hotel Serpiano where our USA athletes were housed - a 20-30 minute drive from the bocce complex. The host country (Switzerland) picks up the athletes' expenses during their stay.

Our guys posing with the South African team.

A view of the town piazza in the city of Lugano next to Lake Lugano.

First place team in white (Italy) with third place team (Brazil).
