If you know others who would enjoy and benefit from this Ezine, encourage them to sign up. You could forward this issue to them so they can decide for themselves if they want to "opt in". I promise that I will never be in the business of selling or trading your email address or other personal information.
A word about ads: Like any entrepreneurial type, I'd love to turn a profit from something I really enjoy. For now, I have decided not to accept paid advertisements. If I pitch a product here, it is something I have examined and tested and deem it beneficial to our readers.
Disclaimer: Hey, I don’t claim to be a bocce pro. Heck, I’m not even a very good player – but no one loves the sport more than I do. My contribution to the game is in having interviewed many of the top players and then assembling the information into a concise, easy-to-read book. What I’ve created is comparable to what others have done for basketball, soccer, and other sports.
PLEASE – we are always looking for bocce photos and feedback from all over the USA. We want to connect bocce fans everywhere. You can email (author@joyofbocce.com) or snail mail (Mario Pagnoni, P.O. Box 608, Methuen, MA 01844).

{Publisher’s comments in brackets}
We didn’t get much response to Tom Cretella’s question about “friendly wagering” on bocce. I’m guessing that most people are not playing for money. One reader suggested that gambling on bocce might turn things into a circus act.
Tom indicated that “I just built my own court. Now the joy of bocce is right in my back yard. I know my father’s games involved some wager or another.”
{ I have never wagered on my bocce games…which might explain why I am still financially solvent.}

John Monaghan offers this…
“There should be a National Registry of Bocce Courts open for the general public. This would direct people to them and prevent public officials from removing them without interested opposition.”
{Makes perfect sense to me – how would a group or individual go about setting such a plan into motion?}

Lots of great bocce news from John Ross…
{About the bocce documentary we have been anxiously awaiting…}
“I finally tracked down the producer, Blake Direkson. He is in New York working on another film. He said that the documentary is almost finished and should be out soon.
They had some editing problems, but the director has solved the problems and the final cut should be ready soon.”
{John promises that I will be one of the first to know when the video is released, and I will quickly get the word out here}
{A critique of a past issue…}
”I just finished reading e-zine #40. You did an outstanding job reporting on the North American Championships in Chicago. I was impressed with your synopsis of the rules and the photographs you used to represent different aspects of the game.”
{That issue generated the most positive feedback of any issue to date, especially from people who had no idea such a level of bocce existed}
{News of an intriguing fund-raiser…}
”I'm sorry that I missed meeting you in Chicago. My wife Andrea and I were invited to play on the western teams, but were unable to because of a long-standing prior commitment. We have a bocce court and a small non-commercial winery (Shady Oak Cellars) in our back yard which we "sell" at a charity auction for the Sequoia Hospital Foundation. We provide brunch, bocce lessons (from one of the current US national champions, Andrea) and a winery tour and barrel tasting. Then we coach and supervise a long afternoon of bocce for the winner of the bid. This event has raised over $7,500 for the foundation the last two years, and we could not cancel the date.”
{Congratulations on the excellent community service project incorporating bocce – would love to hear more about this}
{Finally, a promise of things to come…}
”We recently bought a digital camera. We are having trouble getting our computer (Mac 8.6) to co-operate. As soon as we figure out how to make everything work, you will have photos of every court in the west!”
{Great news…photos of every court in the west!}
